Itinerary: La Fiorida farm – Novate Mezzola

Levelled path mostly on a paved bike and pedestrian track.
An easy and pleasant bike tour, suitable for everyone, that, without technical difficulties, create a ring of 36 km around the lake of Mezzola. Cycling all the day, surrounded by an unique and breathtaking nature we will visit places with a very old history, dated back to the Roman Empire.
Every kind of bike is suitable and a we require just a basic fitness level. The ring includes just a short moderate uphill (about 90 mt) and ups and downs.
WELL, LET'S GO!
From the farm La Fiorida, we will go along the Valtellina Path until the Oasis of Pian di Spagna, called in this way from the Medieval time, when the Spanish ruled. We will reach the “porticciolo”, where Gianni will bring us to discover the most hidden corners of the Lake of Mezzola and between those also the little temple of St. Fedelino, dated back to Romans. Once finished the visit, we will disembark at Novate Mezzola, where we will lunch tasting the savoury local products of Valtellina.
We will discover the Oasis of Pian di Spagna crossing fields of wheat and sightseeing the local wild fauna. The Mount Legnone will surround us for the most part of the tour, togheter with the nearer Mount Berlinghiera, which soaks its slopes in the Lake of Mezzola.
We will disembark at the Oratory of St. Fedelino (known also as “tempietto di San Fedelino”), built between the X and XI century, in order to remind the martyr of an Emperor’s soldier.
That soldier was condemned to death during the persecutions of Diocleziano and Massimiano because he was Christian and, before a battle, he didn’t wanted to do participate to the sacrificial offers to gods.
Then, still by ship, we will arrive at Novate, where we will find the taste the typical local products of Valtellina.
After this real experience we will relax a little bit. Then, we will start biking passing across Verceia and Dubino, where a little uphill (about 90 mt) will give us the possibility of enjoying the wonderful landscape of the low Valtellina, that goes until the Lake of Como. There, an ups and downs track will lead us to the farm of La Fiorida.
